
Imagine a scenario where 50% of the Soccer Coaching Drills should adopt development of trapping skills as their focal point. You will not be convinced with the statement. But No! Research shows that trapping along with passing and dribbling skills alone decide whether your team is capable of winning matches or not.
When a player catches the ball and is able to maintain its possession with him, it’s trapping. In such soccer exercises, they can use their feet, chest, and thighs to do so.
Players must be familiar with the job of trapping the ball. If they can’t trap the ball, they are sure to lose their grip over the match because this is very basic. Below mentioned methods can be used to teach trapping skills to the players.
Engaging the feet: Firstly, train your players in using their feet to deal with the ball which is a basic skill. Kids soccer drills should predominantly include practicing the kids on use of the inside of their foot. It is emphasized for the reason that inside area of the foot is big enough to catch hold of the ball.
If the players are advanced and mature, teach them to use the instep or top of the foot as well as the whole foot in trapping the ball during the soccer coaching drills. When the ball is hopping too much, tell them to employ the most favorable trick of using their shin or ankle.
Thigh Movement: A thigh is very useful in controlling the fast and bouncy approaching ball. Instruct the players to get in front of the ball, stand on one feet and rise the other thigh to stop the ball. While doing this, remember that the knee should some down when it comes in contact with the ball so that the ball remains within the player’s range.
Master the skill of capturing the ball using the knee and then dropping the knee so the ball plunges down and stays within range by intensively working on this exercise.
Use the Chest: Trapping a ball flying high in the air with the use of your chest is also equally useful, like the use of thighs. Players should be positioned in front of the ball to face it but using the energy through their chest to stop it. As a result the ball will loose its tempo almost immediately and will fall down at once.
Nevertheless, soccer training drills should be careful not to expose young players too much to this skill. It is natural for them to use their hands in dealing with the ball while attempting to use their chest. This can become a serious issue if they tend to become habitual of tackling the ball with hands.
