Baby Carriers

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

When I learned I was having child number two, I knew from experience that I had to find a way to free my hands up. I had shopped for baby packbacks and baby slings attempting to find the right one. While I was at a yard sale with my small new baby and other kids in tow, I came across just what I had been looking for. New in the box! Wow, imagine my excitement. Now, while I can’t tell you that you will find your baby carrier for the same bargain price I paid but I will tell you that it would have been worth that cost many times over. I immediately started using the baby carrier. I took the sling out of the box, put it on around my neck, and with a few alterations, went to the rest of the yard sale with my hands free.

Slings are not the only option for carrying your infant; often you will see children in front or back carriers as well. I have also used these, and while they were good options, I didn’t get the same use out of them. My little boy still tries to get me to carry him in it, and he is five! I refuse to sell it because I may have Grandchildren one day!

Women in other cultures have long experienced the benefits of the baby sling; your baby is close and feels secure when near your body. This eliminates a lot of fussiness some infants experience. It also frees up your hands to do other mom stuff - like laundry, dishes, cleaning and with a little practice, you become a pro at bending with a baby on board.

Depending on what type of activities you do, select your babys carrier to accommodate your life. Slings are my individual preference, because I have a lot of practice using one. I think they are the easiest to get on and off, and dont require any securing. Front and back carriers are better if you are looking for something to use less frequently, as your baby will need to be strapped in and this can be time consuming. These are also a little more comfortable for extended outdoor activities like hiking.

Whatever baby carrier you use, make sure that you keep trying it until it feels natural. Many people give up because they are unaccustomed to carrying the extra weight of a baby. Persevere and you’ll discover it gets easier over time.

Ideas to Help Make Your First Airline Travel with Baby Smoother

By zoe | Nov 4, 2008

The best word to describe a travel with your new infant is challenge. It is very challenging to have a long trip when you are with your children especially when air travel is involved. Parents want their infant at the most comfortable and secured position while traveling internationally for a vacation. With this, it is best to educate yourself of what to do when you will travel and you need to bring your infant with you.

One of the most popular and most common ways to make your travel secure for your baby is through purchasing a child’s fare where airlines will provide a baby car seat for infants to secure them during taking off and landing. However, this would cost you extra money out of your pockets. Aside from this, not all airlines allow parents to use a car seat.

Another option to look at is by purchasing an infant travel system, like a good name brand stroller such as a McLaren Bugaboo stoller. However, prior to purchasing this, it is best to do some research first with regard to the products being offered. This includes brands and models available, features like reclining seat positions, folding mechanism, weight restrictions and storage space in the strollers.

Once on the gate, it is also very important to ask the gate agent for a gate check ticket. With this, strollers can be setup in such a way that it will be readily available once you exit the plane after the flight. This makes catching a connecting flight much easier.

Carry on bags and diaper bags should also be in place when traveling with your baby. Consider combining your purse, diaper bag, and briefcase into one or two bags instead of several.

On the airplane, you must install the car seat on the plane when you purchase a ticket for your baby. For convenience, it is best advice that you seek help from the flight attendant and read the manual to make sure that your baby’s car seat is approved for air travel.

A baby sling can be a possible option too.  This can help you carry your baby easier and trouble-free. However, some airlines do not recommend or allow special flight vest so it is best to do a research first or ask your airline before deciding to buy and carry a baby sling.

While you may be busy getting all the big gear for the trip together, don’t forget the all-important engaging baby toys. Such toys include books, puppets, teething items and toys that make soft noises. Keeping your baby engaged and busy is the ticket to sanity on a long flight–or any flight for that matter.

The best practice to take is to always be prepared whenever you plan to do an air travel and list down all important things to consider prior to the flight. Through this, you can enjoy the travel with fewer worries for your infant security and comfort. Also, you can rest assure a peace of mind while traveling.

What to Look for in an Infant Car Seat

By zoe | Nov 3, 2008

Every parent’s ultimate concern is baby safety. The most important part of that plan is to choose the best seat for the particular car. Here are a few things to look for when trying to find that perfect model.

The first things you need to look at are weight and age. Babies less than one year of age need to have a safety seat that is especially made for their small size. It still needs to be facing the rear, and shouldn’t be used with an older baby.

The average weight for a child between the ages of one and four is about 20 to 40 pounds. Of course, they’re also taller than small babies, and they keep increasing in height as they get older. That opens up the possibility of a forward-facing car seat, which is a little more convenient for parents. However, it still needs to be placed in the back seat.

Convenience doesn’t have to be sacrificed for any of these goals, of course. Some styles can be converted. That is, they can be turned from a rear-facing position to forward-facing with a few simple movements. Still, keep in mind the correct age and weight characteristics.

It’s essential that the car seat you use meets some minimum standards. It’s important to look for a seat with a five point harness feature. So the parents can use the car’s safety belt to fasten the baby seat at the shoulders, hips and between the legs. This gives a more secure and stable base.

It’s helpful to have an overhead shield, too. These padded covers circle down and around the infant. AT-shield is another option; this is a padded attachment for the should straps, in the shape of a T of course.

Choose a style that has a tether on top that attaches to a properly installed anchor in the car. That adds extra safety. Some have a system called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children). Therefore, there’s no need to use the safety belts in the car which are really intended for adults and older children. The car seat attaches, instead, entirely to the anchors.

Extra safety and comfort is provided by baby car safety seats that safely allow for adding or subtracting padding or blankets. As well, parents don’t have to spend as much time making adjustments to the seat for a good fit. That’s a situation in which no-one loses. There are even those with an integrated travel vest to buckle around your child.

That same double theme of safety and convenience is carried on by seat designs that make it easy to insert and adjust the restraining straps. Parents are busy people and it’s all too easy to take an occasional shortcut. However, nobody wishes to skimp on safety. A model that needs just a few seconds to put in or move is the answer to all of those issues.

Advice On Baby Car Seat Buying Guide

By zoe | Oct 28, 2008

Safety is a priority with parents, and this is reflected in the amount of time and money they are willing to spend on a car seat for their child. Despite the obvious concern for child safety, parents misuse the seats on an average of 79. Most people jeopardized their child by improperly fastening the safety restraints. Both the harness straps and safety belt attachments were frequently too loose. Among the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s study, these mistakes - the most frequent ones - are also the most potentially ‘critical,’ because they pose a great danger to the child.

{So how do you know make sense of keeping your newborn safe?}

Buying Baby Car Seat

Make sure you are not one of the parents who overlook obtaining a seat that is custom made for the child’s weigh and age; once you purchase it, make sure you put it in the right position. Many infant car seats allow you to place your child in a rear-facing position, provided that he or she is under a year old and less than 20 pounds. Anyone who looks closely at these seats can visibly tell that they were designed for newborns and small babies by the way that they are made and through their portability. Parents should place their infant-only car seat in the back seat and face him or her towards the rear of the car.

Baby Seat for Car

Unlike infant-only seats, convertible seats will allow your child to grow without having to replace the seat. As your baby grows, they will need a larger, sturdier car seat, and convertible seats fit the bill for your child exactly. Any child who is smaller than 20 pounds or younger than a year can be placed in the rear-facing position in a convertible. When baby turns one and exceeds 20 pounds, you can turn the seat forward-facing; most convertible seats accommodate children up to 40 pounds. Whether you use an infant-only or a convertible seat, be sure to use it in the manner you’re supposed to. Read the seat’s instructions and your vehicle owner’s guide. The car seat should buckle into the car, and the baby should buckle into the seat. Positions of the slot and firmness of the harness strap itself make the harness one of the more complex issues that parents seem to struggle with. The baby’s shoulders are a good way to measure where the straps slide into the slots; for infant car seats they go below, and for convertibles, they go above. Many times parents allow the harness straps to become twisted, and they should not; check your owner’s guide to see where the harness clip should be placed, though a good height is generally around the armpit.

Baby Car Seat Instalation

Safety belt use is a common problem, as well so be sure the seat belt follows the correct path for the position of the seat and recline the seat at about a 45-degree angle, if possible. Another tip is to include a rolled up towel that you can place under the seat. Make sure that the safety seat is fastened to your vehicle, and tighten the seat belt as needed. LATCH systems will require you to follow the exact details that should be listed in the vehicle owner’s guide and the car seat manufacturer’s guide. The seat should be in good condition, so if you purchase a used one, double check the label for age. Every seat you buy, even a used one, should include instructions from the manufacturer; your seat should be less than five years old as well. Make sure you have all the parts and know whether it has been in an accident; be safe not sorry - don’t take the chance.

CORI Background Check about !

By zoe | Oct 9, 2008

ma checks What are employers not permitted to ask you?All the employers are not allowed to ask you about arrests, detentions, or any violations of law from which no conviction resulted. Again remember, you will not have to disclose to your employer any thing you were charged with that you were not found guilty of.

What if I did some bad things in the past ? Employers also cannot ask about misdemeanors where the date of conviction or end of incarceration, whichever is later, happened five or more years ago, with no convictions since then. For the child in need of services cases you do not tell employers about the delinquency cases (Child in Need of Services),until Superior court takes it for criminal prosecution.

If the criminal record was sealed what it means to say? The good news is that once a record is sealed, only those within the criminal justice system are allowed to see it. The charge basically only exists for the police and the courts, but for just about all other people, it’s really non-existant. few records of the Massachusetts criminals can be sealead. When the record is sealed, most business will not be able to view it when doing a CORI check. Remember, you do not need to inform an employer about a criminal record that has already been sealed.

How do you make your record sealed? Have your misdemeanor convictions been closed for 10 years and your felony convictions been closed for 15 years? If they have then you are eligible for your criminal record to be sealed. Definition: A case closes on the last day of prison, parole, or probation, whichever came last. You filling out a form and mailing it to the office of the commissioner of probation in Boston.

The convictions should be sealed (Telephone: 617-727-6558)

How long would it take? You wouldn’t get any waiting period, but you would have to produce details showing that a “compelling governmental interest” is present, or some other genuine causes for sealing the record. These charges could very well be keeping you from finding any employment or housing.

What To Look For When Finding Jogging Strollers

By zoe | Oct 8, 2008

baby jogger performance

Every new parent needs to have some type of baby stroller to enable them to get out and about with baby, without having to carry the infant. There are a number of different types of strollers that new parents can choose from and one of the more popular models is the jogging stroller. Jogging strollers are quite a bit different than the traditional strollers in several ways.

Jogger strollers refer to the kind of baby strollers that are built with three wheels instead of four, which is the configuration found on standard types of infant strollers. These baby jogger strollers are designed specifically for parents who are very active and who typically engage in outdoor activities, such as jogging, running, fitness walking, or simply walking quickly in order to take care of the many tasks of the day.

The way that people use jogging strollers varies quite a bit depending of the needs and activities of the family. Some people regularly use them in outdoor settings where there is uneven and rough terrain. Others like them for their maneuverability in crowded stores and congested sidewalks. The various jogging stroller models are equipped with different types and sizes of wheels, depending on how they will be used. Some are best on flat surfaces, while others are intended to be used on uneven surfaces as well.

There are a number of different considerations to take into account when shopping for a jogging stroller. The first thing to consider is how the stroller will be used, for the most part. Will it primarily be used while running or while walking? Or, will it be used equally for both types of activities? Will you regularly be taking the baby in the stroller out to the park and on hiking trails where the terrain is uneven and rough?

For parents who are avid runners and like to get out into nature on off-road pathways, they should be looking at a jogging stroller with larger wheels. The ideal size of wheels for these uses is 20 inches. This size of the wheels on the baby jogger will give the stroller, and the baby inside, a much smoother ride when going over uneven or bumpy surfaces, and will help to maneuver over curbs and such.

If you expect to primarily be doing light jogging or walking for health and fitness, then the 16-inch wheel is probably a good choice. This size will provide good baby jogger performance, and while it can still be used for outdoor activities such as running, walking or hiking, it also performs well in other situations, such as shopping and maneuvering around stores.

If the parents will mostly be using the stroller for light walking, such as shopping, then a jogging stroller with a 12-inch wheel size is probably the best choice. This small wheel size enables the jogger to move around obstacles more nimbly, which can be particularly important for wending your way through stores with narrow aisles.

There are many additional features that you might want check for when looking at jogging strollers. Families that expect to use the stroller on bumpy trails or unpaved roads should be sure to get a baby stroller that is equipped with a brake. You should also check to make sure that the safety straps and harness will secure the baby in the stroller safely.
